Story
The plot concerns playboy Virendra Pratap Singh (Ajay Devgan). A clause in the will of his wealthy father forces him to enter a military academy in order to inherit. Virendra's repeated attempts to get himself discharged are foiled by Major Jasbir Singh Rana (Amitabh Bachchan). Then Virendra falls in love with Nisha (Sonali Bendre), the sister of a gangster named Shankar (Ashish Vidhyarthi). Shankar wants Nisha to marry the son of his friend Parshuram Bihari and hatches a plot to separate the couple.

- Tinnu Anand was supposed to play the small role of a lawyer, but he fell seriously sick and was hospitalized. Another actor portrayed this role on screen and Tinnu Anand dubbed in his own voice while another actor was moving his lips on screen.
- The movie released a week later than intended because the Indian Army raised objections to Amitabh Bachchan's beard in the movie. To resolve the issue, Amitabh Bachchan mentions the Army's policy on beards in the opening credits of the movie.
- Abhishek Bachchan was an uncredited assistant on the production.
- This was first film for Ajay Devgan where he had to lose his trademark hair and settle for a army cut hairstyle.
- The song 'Sona Sona' was initially recorded for Lal Baadshah, but director K.C. Bokadia wasn't going to use the song in the film and Amitabh Bachchan requested if he could use it for his home production 'Major Saab'.
