Story

Apoorva Lakhia said that the script was written with the lead actor, Amitabh Bachchan, in mind. Lakhia explained that "Man On Fire has been made into four films in five different languages. So this is the Indian version. It has all the necessarily ingredients required for a movie to come out of India." Vikram Chatwal, who plays Ravi Rathore in the film, said "People talk a lot about cross cultural films. These films don't necessarily have to be like Monsoon Wedding or Bend It Like Beckham. This is not another Hindi film. This is not a remake of Man on Fire. If you see the way it is shot, edited and directed, it is setting new standards. Mr Bachchan is reinventing himself. So please don't turn this film into another Bollywood film."

The film was shot on location in Bangkok, Thailand, for 35 days. Lakhia said that he and Bunty Walia, a producer, chose Bangkok because "we wanted our characters to stand out. When they are walking on the street they will look different. Both my heroes are over six feet and Thai men are not as tall. So it was really important to be in a place where they could stand out."

Did you know?

1. The movie's working title was "Ajnabi - A Man Apart".
2. The filmmakers chose Bangkok as their primary location principally because Bangkok hadn't been captured so extensively on celluloid in the past.
3. The entire unit traveled in one bus. The bus would leave for the locations, as scheduled and would not wait for anyone. Those who were late missed the bus. The unfortunate ones included producer, Bunty Walia, director Apoorva Lakhia as well as actress Perizaad Zorabian.
4. The makers auditioned approximately 70 kids for the role of Anamika before finally zeroing in on Baby Rucha Vaidya. One of the prerequisites for the character was that the child had to know how to swim. However, even though Rucha didn't know how to swim, director Apoorva Lakhia was so impressed that he was adamant on casting her. And so she was given three months before the shooting of the film, during which she actually learned how to swim.
5. The cast and crew used to keep having Tuk Tuk races, throughout the streets of Bangkok, during their schedule. Tuk Tuks are the local auto rickshaws.
6. Pooja Bedi shot a cameo role as a News Reporter, but her scenes were removed in the final print as the makers felt there wasn't any need for her role.
7. The snaps of 'Amitabh Bachhan' seen when Kelly Dorjee browses police records are actually from the film "Lakshya" which also had Amitabh playing an army officer (Colonel Damle).
8. This is the first time Arjun Rampal will be seen in an item number track.
9. Producers Bunty Walia and Jaspreet Singh Walia requested good friends Vishal and Shekhar to compose the two item numbers pictured on Sanjay Dutt and Arjun Rampal.
10. The promotion of the film kicked off with a star studded press conference in New York. Bollywood was represented by the films producer Bunty Walia, director Apoorva Lakhia, the lead star Amitabh Bachchan, co-stars Arjun Rampal, Vikram Chatwal as well as Jaya Bachchan, Shah Rukh Khan, Abhishek Bachchan and Karan Johar. International celebrities 'Naomi Campbell', Matthew Broderick and Sarah Jessica Parker were also present.
11. In the scene when Ravi (Vikram Chatwal) and Nikasha (Perizaad Zorabian) leave for London, Suryaveer Singh (Amitabh Bachchan) is wearing a cap which has director Apoorva Lakhia's directorial debut's name Mumbai Se Aaya Mera Dost.

Story

Shekhar Sinha (Amitabh Bachchan), his wife Sandhaya (Revathi) and their son Jai (Karan Sharma) are one of the many Indian families living in Mauritius.

Jai ventures out to Stockholm, Sweden to obtain education in culinary studies and incidentally meets Sophie Besson (Annabelle Wallis), a Roman Catholic Franco-Mauritian. They start meeting regularly and soon fall in love. Jai is introduced to Sophie's parents Norman and Claire Besson (Malcolm Stoddard and Claire Oberman) but Norman (a previous slave master) instantly disapproves of him (because of his ethnicity). Jai feels his father and mother would approve of Sophie. Unfortunately Sandhaya disapproved her (because of her Catholic faith) and tells Jai to end his relationship with her.

The lovers plan to elope but Jai fails to turn up on the stipulated wedding time in Church. Sophie reluctantly returns to her parents to marry the boy of their choice (Gordon). By this time Jai is engaged to Gayatri Pandey (Bhoomika Chawla), to fulfill his mother's wish (who has asthma). Sophie wants to know why Jai did not turn up.

Meanwhile Gayatri gets to know of Jai and Sophie's love and so comes up with a ruse of Sophie's false pregnancy that forces Sophie and Jai's family to accept them as a couple.

The film ends with Gayatri leaving Mauritius.

1. Manmohan Shetty suggested Amitabh Bachchan's name to Romesh Sharma.
2. The movie is a big screen adaptation of Romesh Sharma's 42-episode French television series "C'est La Vie", which starred Karan Sharma in the same role that he's enacting in this film.

Story

The movie begins with Amar telling the story of his family and himself. Amar is the son of Vidyadhar and Sumitra Patwardhan, a middle class couple in India. Amar lives and works in London and he sends some of his salary to them. One day Amar returns home with Jenny Mayer, his girlfriend, and announces his intention to get married to her. Initially reluctant, his parents are pleased and happy for the two. One day, Amar goes out celebrating with his friends, whilst his parents and Jenny organise a surprise party for him.

Outside a pub, Amar witnesses a murder and, while trying to apprehend the killer, he gets mortally wounded in the fight. Amar succumbs in the hospital. The assailant is identified as Harshwardhan Kadam, son of a minister Kadam. Soon, the police start covering the case up. Amar is implicated in false charges of drug peddling. Witnesses and close friends of Amar too give false statements. The torture doesn't end there, as police try to implicate Jenny as his accompolice.

Vidyadhar decides that it is not good for Jenny to live there, especially since she is expecting Amar's child. Vidyadhar bails her out and implores her to return before she is locked up for good. Harshwardhan goes scot free meanwhile and Vidyadhar decides to seek justice on his own. Ali Asgar, a mechanic and an acquaintance of Patwardhan's, decides to help them. Soon, Ali succeeds in procuring a gun for Vidyadhar.

Vidyadhar decides to confront Harshwardhan in his own office. Harshwardhan cockily lets him enter in and starts taunting him. Vidyadhar accuses him and Harshwardhan arrongantly confesses his crimes, telling Vidyadhar that he cannot prove a thing. Vidyadhar points the gun at him, upon which Harshwardhan calls his guards. Vidyadhar guns down Harshwardhan and the guards enter in moments later Harshwardhan's dead body collapses down. Harshwardhan's head guard lets Vidyadhar go, claiming that he won't be able to look at his family in the eye if he arrests Vidyadhar.

A case stands up against Vidyadhar, where he reveals a pocket tape recorder on which the whole confession of Harshwardhan is recorded. Based on the proof, Amar is exonerated of all false charges levelled up against him. Vidyadhar is also set free. In an interview, Vidyadhar makes it clear that he doesn't intend to sue Kadam since his son has been killed and Vidyadhar knows the pain.

In the end, it is shown that Vidyadhar is living a happy life with Sumitra, Jenny, and his grandchild. Amar now explains that his father has always been a hero for him since childhood and he is feeling a little jealous of his daughter who is being treated with same affection with which Vidyadhar treated Amar in his childhood. The movie ends with Amar disappearing in light claiming now he can rest in peace.

Did you know?

1. The mahurat (start of filming) was scheduled for 28 June 2004, but was called off at the last minute owing to the death of well-known producer Yash Johar.
2. Saif Ali Khan was the original choice to play the role of Amar Patwardhan, but because he couldn't accommodate the filming schedule, 'John Abraham' replaced him.
3. The highlight of the mahurat, was the presence of celebrities who have actually made an attempt to fight against the establishment or the system successfully. These include Medha Patkar, T N Seshan, Anna Hazare, Tarun Tejpal and Sundarlal Bahuguna.
4. Initially Mahesh Manjrekar wanted to cast Jaya Bachchan opposite Amitabh Bachchan. The idea was to portray them as an ideal couple. However, their dates could not be worked out, and Mahesh cast Sharmila Tagore in the role.
5. The movies script was written keeping Amitabh Bachchan's character in mind. Mahesh was initially apprehensive to approach Amitabh; he tentatively approached the actor during the shooting of Kaante, and started developing the script after he got a positive response.
6. While shooting in Pune with Amitabh Bachchan and John Abraham, the crowd held up the shoot. John stepped in and volunteered to calm them down, so that Bachchan could shoot without disruption.
7. Sharmila Tagore was conscious about the height difference between her and Amitabh Bachchan. Before she started shooting for the film, she went shopping for high heels. On the first day of shooting, she came in wearing her heels, only to realize they were shooting sitting down.
8. While shooting the climax, Mahesh Manjrekar wanted a happy, laughing family. But during the take, everyone was laughing except Sharmila Tagore. After several retakes, Amitabh Bachchan very sweetly said, "Please laugh, Mrsji" - it looked so real that Mahesh kept it!

Story

Subhash Nagre (Amitabh Bachchan), who is known by his followers as Sarkar, lives in Mumbai. The opening scenes show a rape victim's father (Veerendra Saxena) approaching Sarkar (which is parallel to Amerigo Bonasera visiting Don Corleone in The Godfather for same reason) for justice (which the corrupt law and order system has failed to deliver) which Sarkar promptly establishes by having the rapist beaten up by his henchmen. His son, Vishnu (Kay Kay Menon), plays a foul-mouthed producer who is more interested in the film actress Sapna (Nisha Kothari) than his wife Amrita (Rukhsar). Sarkar's other, more upright son, Shankar (Abhishek Bachchan), returns from the United States with his love Pooja (Katrina Kaif) after completing his education there. Pooja's doubts about Sarkar's image cause Shankar, who firmly believes in his father's righteousness, to break up with her later in the movie.

One day, a Dubai-based don, Rasheed (Zakir Hussain) tries to strike a deal with Sarkar; he promptly refuses on moral grounds and also forbids him from doing it himself. Rasheed tries to eliminate Sarkar's supremacy with the help of Selvar Mani (Kota Srinivasa Rao), Sarkar's former associate and Swami Virendra (Jeeva). Meanwhile, they trap Sarkar by assassinating a righteous, upright, Ahimsa political leader and an outspoken critic of Sarkar, Motilal Khurana (Anupam Kher). Everyone, including Vishnu believe that Sarkar is guilty but Shankar has deep faith in his father. Sarkar gets arrested. Shankar now takes over the position of Sarkar temporarily. On learning of a plot to murder his father in prison, he approaches the police commissioner (Anant Jog) who mocks him and his father besides not providing protection. By the time he reaches the prison and appropriate action is taken, the attempt on Sarkar's life is already made. Sarkar is later acquitted. He remains bedridden as Shankar takes on Sarkar's enemies. Meanwhile, Selva Mani, Swami and Rasheed try to convince Vishnu to murder Sarkar. Vishnu was previously thrown out of Sarkar's house because he had murdered the actor who was having an affair with Sapna. Vishnu returns home pretending to have repented. When he approaches Sarkar in the dark of the night with the intent of murdering him, Shankar foils his plan and later kills him (establishing justice by the way of his father). Shankar eliminates Rasheed and Selva Mani. He also succeeds in making Swami his puppet. Shankar has also realized that Chief Minister Madan Rathore (Deepak Shirke) also has a part in the attempt to end Sarkar and his rule. This results in legal action against the Chief Minister. The closing scenes show people approaching Shankar for justice and his father apparently retired.

Did you know?

1. 'Ram Gopal Verma' had signed Amitabh Bachchan for another movie "Ek", he decided to scrap that script and decided to cast both father and son together for the first time in this movie.
2. The term "Sarkar" (pronounced "sur-kaar") is a title, used in Hindi, to address someone of authority. It is also the Hindi word for government.
3. Many directors have been trying to get both the real life father and son together in the same movie, finally 'Ram Gopal Verma' managed to rope them in together for the first time, even though Bunty Aur Babli (to which the father and son signed much later) was released earlier.

Story

he movie is narrated by two puppets, voiced by Naseeruddin Shah and his real-life wife Ratna Pathak Shah. Enthusiastic young Lachchi (Rani Mukerji) is to be married to Kishen (Shahrukh Khan), the son of the rich merchant Bhanwarlal (Anupam Kher). Kishen is a dutiful son who honors his father's wish to start a new, far-away business on a predetermined auspicious date, which happens to be the day after the wedding ceremony. On the wedding night, Kishen turns away from his wife to finish his bookkeeping, and in the early morning hours sets off on a business trip that is to last five years. Lachchi is devastated; Gajrobai (Juhi Chawla), her husband's sister-in-law, consoles her, empathizing on the grounds that Gajrobai's husband Sunderlal (Sunil Shetty) has also disappeared. The next day, a ghost appears, having taken Kishen's shape and voice because of his own attachment to Lachchi.

Lachchi is thus presented a riddle (hence the title "paheli") between the representation of all of her desires in the form of the ghost and her real husband. She takes this new, fond, sexual, magical, social, self-confident version of Kishen as hers. As Kishen, the ghost befriends all of the real Kishen's family and keeps Bhanwarlal happy by providing him with magical, possibly illusory, gold coins. His only blunder is in his treatment of the messenger Bhoja, who is perplexed by the idea that Kishen has sent a letter from his business trip only to receive it himself in his own house and offended when the ghost (who appears as Kishen) does not offer him a drink of water. Lachchi's bliss goes on until four years later, when she is pregnant and the real Kishen returns to see if the rumors about his wife's pregnancy are true. He returns to find the ghost in his (Kishen's) own form. Kishen's family is unable to determine which of the doppelgangers is the real Kishen (the ghost refusing to confess). They decide to visit the king so that he can arbitrate. On the way to the king they meet an old shepherd Gadariya (Amitabh Bachchan) who helps them out. He asks the real son of Bhanwarlal to pick up hot coals, asks the real husband to gather the sheep, and asks Lachchi's real paramour to enter a water-bottle. The real Kishen is found out and everyone returns home. Lachchi is devastated over the loss of the ghost. In the very end it is revealed that the ghost has escaped the bottle and taken control of Kishen's body in order to live with her. By now Lachchi has given birth to a daughter, Looni Ma, by whose identification the ghost exposes his identity to Lachchi. The puppets close the film, remarking that the film's plot is "an old story".

Story

Rakesh Trivedi (Abhishek Bachchan) comes from a small village. His father is a ticket collector on the train, and wants him to get into a similar occupation as well. However, Rakesh has big dreams; he is forever coming up with new business plans and is convinced he will make it big one day. He adamantly refuses any notion that he will one day work in a 9-to-5 environment.

Vimmi Saluja (Rani Mukerji) is the daughter of a Punjabi family in another small village; she spends her hours watching films and studying supermodels, and dreams of becoming Miss India one day.

One day Vimmi's parents tell her they have arranged her marriage to a young man with a decent job. At the same time Rakesh's father gives him an ultimatum – go to the interview for the job his father has arranged for him, or get out of the house.

Rakesh and Vimmi both pack their bags in their respective homes and sneak out in the dark of the night. They bump into each other at a train station, and become friends after realizing their stories are similar. Both support and encourage each other to achieve their dreams: Vimmi tries to enter herself in the Miss India contest but gets thrown out after an argument, and Rakesh tries to sell his ideas for an investment scheme, but a businessman turns him away. In fact, a man he had met at a restaurant stole ideas from Rakesh's presentation file and when he enters the office, the interviewer states someone before him came in with the same idea. After finding out that the businessman who Rakesh had approached has used his idea to make money for himself, he and Vimmi con him and take money they believe is rightly theirs.

Once they realize how easy it is to con people, they decide to run some more scams in order to raise money to make it to Bombay.

Unfortunately for India, they find the lifestyle too exciting to give up. Adopting the fake names of 'Bunty' and 'Babli', they successfully pull off scam after scam, looting and conning rich people dressed as local guides, religious priests, health inspectors, business partners, etc. Their flamboyant antics make them famous in newspapers nationwide. Soon their friendship leads to romance and they decide to continue scamming the rich as husband and wife.

Little do Rakesh and Vimmi know that ACP Dashrath Singh (Amitabh Bachchan) is catching up with their scams and pranks, getting closer each time. He relentlessly pursues them across India in the hopes of putting them behind bars. To complicate matters, Rakesh and Vimmi have a child, and after a very close call eluding Dashrath they decide to quit conning for their child's sake. Ironically, this decision leads to their capture by Dashrath. While in custody, their heartfelt confessions and conversation soften the detective's heart and he lets them go, certain he has destroyed Bunty and Babli's career as criminals.

Years later, Dashrath rescues them from their mundane and domestic lives to work for the nation thwarting the activities of other scammers.

The plot, although it draws on the idea of two rather lovable crooks, does not contain much violence. In fact each of the adventures of Bunty and Babli are thoroughly Indianised, like the fake selling of the Taj Mahal. It draws comparisons to the American classic "Bonnie and Clyde", however there are no dark elements to the film. In fact, as stated above, there is minimal violence and the characters do not die a bloody death, unlike their American counterparts. The robberies done were usually to teach a lesson or exact revenge for some previous altercation.

Did you know?

1. Hrithik Roshan was approached for the role of Bunty. However, recalling the disastrous Mujhse Dosti Karoge!, he put a condition that he would do the film if it was directed by either Yash Chopra or Aditya Chopra. Abhishek Bachchan was approached next and he accepted the role.
2. The movie is a homage to work of Amitabh Bachchan (who also stars in the movie). His son (Abhishek Bachchan) tries to reprise his father's roles in various movies. For example he tries to act like Amitabh bachchan from Agnipath in the scene where he goes on to con a hotel owner in Mussoorie. He appears in Rishi Kappor get-up from Amitabh's super hit film Amar Akbar Anthony. Also, almost all the songs playing in the background throughout the movie are from Amitabh Bachhan movies.

Story

Ishwarchand Thakur (Amitabh Bachchan) and Sumitra Thakur (Shefali Shah) are a married couple who run a toy factory together. They have a son called Aditya Thakur (Akshay Kumar) who does not have any interest in responsibility or what he wants to do in life. It gets even worse when he elopes with his girlfriend, Pooja (Priyanka Chopra), the daughter of Natu (Boman Irani).

When Pooja gets pregnant, both Ishwar and Sumitra decide to make Aditya realise his responsibilities, as he will have to take care of his wife and child. They take drastic measures and throw Aditya out the house along with Pooja. As a result, he and she live in a room at the back of the house in the garden. The force becomes so bad that Aditya begins to hate his father and they do not speak to each other for a long time. At the same time Aditya becomes aware of his role in life.

However, Ishwar has done all this for a reason and is hiding something from Aditya. Ishwar is trying to make sure that his son is secure but because he is suffering from lung cancer and he wants his son to be responsible. Aditya succeeds in becoming a responsible man and also finds out the truth about his father when his father comes for his performance on the stage. He steps on the stage but instead he asks the audience to pray to god to give a minute of their lives to keep his father alive until his son's birth. His father is alive until his son is born and he names the baby boy 'Ishwar' after himself and he dies. The movie reaches its climax with Aditya welcoming children at his father's toy factory and playing with an alone, disabled boy like Ishwar did at the start of the film with his family there including his toddler Ishwar. The spirit of Ishwar touches Sumitra's flowers in her hair and it reminds her of the old times.

Did you know?

1. During the making of 'Aankhen (2002)', 'Vipul Shah' narrated the script of this movie to the two leading men Amitabh Bachchan and 'Akshay Kumar'. Both were keenly waiting to start working together once again.
2. When the film was announced Paresh Rawal was part of the script, however his role was finally taken by Boman Irani.
3. As part of the marketing strategy for the movie, Amitabh Bachchan personally wrote the story of father son relationship in his own handwriting on the advertising brochures of the movie
4. The seven-minute song "Do me a favor - let's play Holi" took seven days to film. This was due to a series of factors - the time it took to set up the sets and equipment; the time it took to film the scenes; the time it took to clean up the sets; and one unexpected setback - Priyanka Chopra got electrocuted when she stepped on a loose wire. Fortunately she spent only one night in the hospital.
5. The film's Launch was very innovative, which was held at Mumbai's Juhu Beach (behind Horizon Hotel). The director wanted the common man to witness it.
6. Akshay Kumar was so touched by the film's father-son subject that he acquired the Mumbai distribution rights of the film. He also insisted that the film be dedicated to his late father Hari Om Bhatia and that each DVD of the film display a letter he had written to his father. Apparently, he got into a clash with the director Vipul Shah over his set conditions, but eventually Shah agreed on all of them.

Story

The film begins with Michelle McNally (Rani Mukerji), a blind and deaf woman, visiting her former teacher Debraj Sahai (Amitabh Bachchan), who now has Alzheimer's disease, in a hospital. The film then flashbacks to the past to her childhood.

Michelle was a girl who lost her eyesight and hearing after recovering from an illness at the age of two and exists in a black world where she is isolated in the darkness of her own existence, trapped by her inability to see, hear and express. She grows up becoming more and more frustrated by the black and dark world around her, making her a violent, uncontrollable eight-year old child. Her parents, Paul and Catherine, are at their wits' end trying to control her, until one day the light shines through the end of the tunnel.

Debraj Sahai enters their lives, an elderly alcoholic teacher for the deaf and blind, Debraj sees himself as a magician and is a disillusioned eccentric man. He takes it upon himself to bring young Michelle into the light. He uses harsh methods, although always for Michelle's long-term benefit. Initially, his methods are met with disapproval by Michelle's father, who asks Debraj to leave. Although her father thinks he is gone, Debraj stays as the teacher while her father is away on business for 20 days. Her mother grudgingly approves of his continuation given her fear of Michelle being sent to an asylum. By the 20th day, Debraj manages to teach Michelle some words and better manners, but he has difficulty teaching her the meaning of words. When Michelle's father returns, Debraj packs his bags. At the very last moment, as he is walking towards the door suitcase in hand, Debraj gets frustrated with Michelle's continuing insolent behavior and he throws her into a fountain full of water. Michelle suddenly takes to Debraj's lessons at that moment and begins to understand meaning. She is able to recognize her mother and father, and can vocalize the first syllables of some words. The McNallys decide to keep Debraj as Michelle's teacher.

Many years later, Michelle has learned a great deal, becoming relaxed and expressive, and she is even able to dance and expertly sign. Debraj convinces the Principal of a university to grant her an interview which she passes and gets admission to pursue a Bachelor of Arts degree, the first deaf-blind person to do so at that university. Michelle moves away from home and lives with Debraj and one of her servants. Over the next 2 years, she struggles to gain her Bachelor of Arts degree, failing year after year, but she still maintains her spirit. One reason is that she must rely on Debraj completely for interpretation of the material and studying. This problem is overcome by the Principal of the school preparing the whole first-year Arts course of study in Braille. Another reason for her continuing failure is that her typing skills are lacking and typing is her only way to write down what she knows during exams. However, she also soon overcomes this deficiency through another flash of increased of competence when she almost quits the university and gets into an argument with Debraj.

At the same time as Michelle suffers through and triumphs over her challenges, we also witness numerous other changes. Debraj begins to succumb to Alzheimer's, first forgetting the way out of the Principal's office and then forgetting Michelle and leaving her stranded during an ice cream celebration for her improved typing. We also see Michelle reconcile with her sister Sara, who we find out was jealous of her parents' affection for Michelle throughout her life. After attending Sara's wedding, Michelle begins to wonder about love, which she has not experienced, and she even asks Debraj to kiss her on the lips. Debraj reluctantly does so but decides to leave Michelle on her own because of this demand and the position she has put him in. Twelve years after enrollment, Michelle does manage to gain her BA, and with her proud parents looking on her, she even gives a speech to the graduating class. Wearing no black graduation robe, she thanks her parents and her teacher and she announces that she will only wear the robe so that her teacher may see her first.

Debraj is in a mental hospital due to his almost complete inability to remember his past and even how to speak. Michelle visits him wearing her robe and we see glimmers of memory return as Debraj realizes that she has graduated and even does a victory dance. As the window opens to the rain outside, we see Debraj's hand in Michelle's reaching into the rain, and we hear the teacher-student pair say the first syllable of the word "water", with echoes of the scene in which Michelle first begins understanding the meaning of words earlier in the movie. However this time, it is Debraj who is beginning to learn to speak and understand.

The movie ends with a scene of Michelle amongst a crowd of people all dressed in black carrying candles walking towards a church. There is a voiceover of a letter Michelle has written to Debraj's friend Mrs Nair explaining that today was her teacher's first day of school, and that like hers, his alphabet began with "B L A C K", implying that Debraj had finally succumbed to his illness and died.

Did you know?

1. The shooting of the movie ran into trouble in Scenic Hill Resort, with authorities refusing to allow shooting in the premises of a heritage building. Indian Institute of Advanced Study (IIAS) refused permission to shoot in the 120-year-old building as the arc lights could affect the vice regal lodge heritage structure. The building was home to British viceroys from 1886 until 1947, after which it became the summer home of the president of India and since 30 years houses the IIAS.
2. A fire broke out on the sets at Mumbai's Film City and four fire brigades were required to put out the fire.
3. Rani Mukherjee wore dark-tinted contact lenses to cover up her famous green eyes.
4. Sanjay Leela Bhansali named the film after his favorite color.
5. The movie's title was registered with Kumar Gaurav; Sanjay Leela Bhansali approached him and requested him to relinquish the title, as he wanted it for his movies. Kumar felt that the film was bold and path breaking and wanted to render any help that he could to the film. Hence the reason Sanjay expressed his gratitude to Kumar Gaurav in the opening credits.

7. Unusually for a work by Bhansali, there are no songs featured in this film. So the background score became of paramount importance to the composer, Monty. To create more of an uplifting aura for the deaf-blind-mute character of Michelle McNally, he used pianos and strings, but kept the voices in the chorus at a low octave. For Debraj Sehai's character, a fighting spirit needed to be vocalized, so Monty used a little-known Middle Eastern instrument called a duduk.
8. The film is based on screenwriter Prakash Kapadia's Gujarati play "Aatam Vinjhe Paankh", which was inspired from "The Miracle Worker"
9. Director Bhansali hoped to make a film that was an extension of his critically acclaimed (box office flop) debut film Khamoshi: The Musical. Both were based on a visit he made to the Helen Keller Institute.
10. Snow was essential for the story, so for the first part of the shoot, the entire unit went to Simla in mid-January. It was cold but there was no sign of snow. Since the unit could not wait around, kilos of salt bags bought from the local market and snow making machines from Bombay helped complete that schedule. The shooting would be done early at 4 am. And when the locals emerged they'd be amazed to see so much snow; it looked so authentic that they would touch it to check whether it was real. Dogs would come and lick the salt. The day after the unit left Simla, it snowed heavily.
11. While the movie is supposedly set in Simla, and has an undefined time period, the time period is variable, and can be measured in part by the presence of Charlie Chaplin movies, which are being presented in the background. These movies include The Kid and The Gold Rush, and while we do not know when they were released in India, they give us a general time period, although this might not fully explain the extravagant European setting of the area, even though the British Raj was still in force.

Story

Diya (Aishwarya Rai) is an intelligent university student who does not agree with arranged marriage. She spends much of her time at an orphanage in Coorg, helping her "Uncle" (Amitabh Bachchan) with the kids living there. The story begins when Diya travels to Mumbai to take exams. While there, she stays with her father's friend, and meets their lighthearted son, Arjun (Vivek Oberoi). His views on love are completely opposite hers. But they start spending time with each other and soon fall in love. Arjun however, is unaware that he is in love, whereas Diya professes her love. Misunderstandings occur until Arjun ventures off to the orphanage, in hopes of putting a smile on her face again after breaking her heart. There, he realizes his true feelings for Diya, who is planning to marry her childhood friend, Ishaan (Suniel Shetty). Luckily, this was all just a plan 'Uncle' made to get Arjun to realize his mistake of not professing love for Diya at the right moment.

Story

Major Ranvir Kaul (Amitabh Bachchan) is a POW who was captured along with over 50 soldiers by Pakistani soldiers in 1971 during the war between India and Pakistan. 33 years later Ranvir's son Gaurav (Akshaye Khanna) decides to go on a rescue mission to Pakistan and bring back his father who he has not seen since he was a child. Helping him on his mission is Khan (Sanjay Dutt) who had successfully escaped from the same prison. They steal, kill, and plan to get the prisoners out. Story

Karan Shergill (Hrithik Roshan) is a young man who has no goal or plans for his future. His father is a businessman, his brother is a successful individual living in America. His girlfriend, Romi (Preity Zinta), a student activist and reporter who espouses fashionable causes out of well-meaning sincerity, tells him he needs to find a goal in life. When a friend announces he is going to join the Indian Military Academy (IMA), Karan applies as well, despite dissent from his parents.

To his surprise, Karan gets selected (though his friend doesn't). But he is undisciplined and unused to the life there and keeps getting into trouble. Upset, he runs away from the academy, which causes Romi to break up with him. Karan finally comes to terms with his situation and makes his decision. He returns to the IMA, takes his punishment, and becomes a focused, disciplined cadet leader, graduating as an officer Lieutenant Karan Shergill.

Karan is posted to the 3rd Battalion of the Punjab Regiment, commanded by Col. Sunil Damle (Amitabh Bachchan) in the Kargil sector, and handles his responsibilities well. Karan comes home on leave and finds out that Romi is getting engaged; he goes to the ceremony to congratulate her. Karan is recalled to his post as his leave is cut short due to outbreak of hostilities in Kargil.

He reports back to his post where he is promoted to the rank of Acting Captain. His battalion CO briefs the officers on the latest situation. The battalion has been assigned to secure Point 5179, a crucial vantage point dominating the army's main supply line, the NH1D. The first part of the assault is successful. The battalion destroys the enemy's screening units with Karan cited for his bravery in saving another officer's life. Meanwhile, Romi gets stationed as war correspondent, where she meets a metamorphosized Karan.

Karan learns that Romi broke off her engagement. She tries to renew her relationship with him amidst the war, but this time Karan declines her. In the second phase of the assault Karan's unit engages in a failed attempt to storm and capture the Pakistani strongholds on the mountain. The Pakistanis have the advantage due to their strategic position and deal the unit heavy losses during the attack. Capt. Shergill and a group of 12 are next given orders to encircle the enemy position and attack it from behind. To do this, they must scale a 1000-foot rock wall. Karan realizes that he has finally found his lakshya (goal) in the form of the wall.

After the unit sustains an attack in a grass field and loses their commanding officer, the remaining men scale the cliff and attack the Pakistani stronghold during the night. The movie ends with Col. Damle looking out across the mountains the next morning, to see an injured Capt. Karan hoisting the Indian flag atop the ruins of the stronghold. Karan's father, who was sceptical and disapproving of him, is now proud of his son. Karan is given a leave following his condition, whereupon he and Romi reunite.

1. The highest crane shot ever done for a feature film was done on 13 October 2003 with a 24ft Giraffe crane at 17.796 ft above the Tanglangla Pass (17582 ft) in Ladakh, India.
2. 'Javed Akhtar' returns to scriptwriting in this movie after more than 14 years. Main Azaad Hoon was the last movie in which he wrote.
3. In the flashback scenes Hrithik Roshan is wearing a wig although he first claimed in interviews that it was his own hair and got away with it.
4. Arjun Rampal was offered the role of Jalal Akbar.

7. The vast majority of the non-speaking Army roles in the film were filled by real-life soldiers of 13th Battalion, The Punjab Regiment. (In the film, the unit portrayed is 3rd Battalion, The Punjab Regiment.)
8. The Drill Instructor at IMA, Subedar Srivardan, is in fact a real-life instructor who served in the senior-most/elite infantry unit in the Indian Army: The Brigade of the Guards.
9. This film portrays a fictionalized account of the actions of 3 Punjab. As the film does show, 3 Punjab was based in Kargil and was among the first of the units to detect the Pakistani intrusion across the Line of Control. However, they did not actually capture "Peak 5179" or any other peak. In actuality, much of the on-screen unit's actions are inspired by various other battalions' actions during the conflict. As the film credits the story as fiction based on fact and is largely truthful to the overall situation, the Army officially endorsed and approved the film.
10. When Hrithik Roshan was asked if there was anything about this movie that he would have changed, he answered that, in the second half, he would have changed Preity Zinta's hair, which he found to be awful.

Story

Joint Commissioner of Police Dev Pratap Singh, a duty-bound, self-righteous officer, and Special Commissioner Tejinder Khosla, the balancing force between the political interests of Chief Minister Bhandarker and Dev's commitment to the law, are lifelong friends, each with his own ideals. Farhaan, a law graduate, was brought up with ideals of non-violence and patriotism. Story

After the tragic death of his son - Rohit, in a car accident, Dr. Ranveer Malhotra has been very protective of his daughter Ria. All is well for Ria until one day on a college mishap Ria reaches up with Aryan and both fall in love with each other. Aryan showers Ria with a lot of love and she thought that he is her ideal life partner. Ria invites Aryan to dinner at her home and introduces him to her parents. Her mother immediately approves of him but her father thinks that something is a miss and tells Ria to stop meeting Aryan. But Aryan is madly in love with Ria and refuses to leave her. When Ria disobeys him, her father decides to dig deeper into Aryan's past. Ranveer is desperate as he knows Ria is heading towards something dangerous.

Did you know?

1. Amitabh Bachchan only committed to this project due to his personal association with the movie's former producer 'Sujit Kumar', who approached him for the role.
2. Originally Zayed Khan was approached to play the obsessive boyfriend's role, but because of his commitment to another movie he declined.
3. At the launch of the movie Vikram Bhatt claimed he had written the story of the movie himself and was inspired by his relationship with his daughter whom he had separated because of his divorce.
4. The movie was shelved whilst in production, due to its producer [error] falling in financial difficulties. However it was reviewed once Cutting Edge Entertainment got involved with the project.
5. In a scene in the mountains you can see the registration letter C-GEJC on a small yellow float plane. This aircraft (Cessna A185F) is registered to Whistler Air, a Canadian company. This suggests that the mountain scenes were shot in British Columbia, which would explain the west coast architecture of the holiday house.
6. The song "Tum agar bas", is inspired by the Ustad Nusrat Fateh Ali khan's Qawaali "Tum agar younhi nazrein".
7. John Abrahams voice was dubbed in the film.

Story

DCP Anant Shrivastav (Amitabh Bachchan) has been assigned the mission to escort terrorist Iqbal Ansari (Atul Kulkarni) from Chandangarh to Mumbai. His terrorist organization are determined to obtain him again. The plan for this is led by Yashwant Angre (Ajay Devgan), a ruthless killer and a former police officer. Anant's team consists of Inspector Shekhar Sachdev (Akshay Kumar), rookie cop Ashwin Gupte (Tusshar Kapoor) and two more inspectors. Soon Mahalakshmi (Aishwarya Rai) joins them as she is the only witness to have seen Yashwant. The team are armed and ready to go but danger lurks everywhere as the terrorist organization are determined to make sure the officers do not make it to Mumbai. The trip turns into survival when the team are attacked at various times. Finally the team make it to an abandoned cottage in the forest but there is a shoot out and the team are heavily outnumbered. Shekhar tries to force an exchange but against Anant's and Ashwin's judgement. Finally Ansari, after weeks of frustration, reveals that the terrorists are also out to kill him. He reveals a corrupt world involving the police and politicians. The officers soon realize the enemy they have been fighting is closer to them...In the end, Shekhar is killed by Mahalakshmi and her associate Angre. This killing spites anger into Anant and he hunts down each one of the corrupt officers and in the end, captures Angre after a fight during which, Despite Anant needing his medication often, he wins, and Angre is successfully captured. The movie ends as Angre is tried and sentenced to prison, and is being carried to his sentence; when he decides to flee, as a nut is lose in the bar to which he is handcuffed in the police van. Angre has Ashwin on gun point using a constable's rifle, when Ashwin reveals that Angre's lose nut was a setup to allow the killing of Angre, and that the bullets of the rifle had been emptied. Ashwin then shoots Angre, and reports his death as murder in an encounter.

1. Akshaye Khanna was initially approached to play Sub Inspector Ashwin Gupte.
2. Aishwarya Rai Bachchan injured her leg in a jeep accident during filming.
3. Jayapradha had a full-fledged role, but because of her commitment to her sick husband who was hospitalized, her role was trimmed down to a guest appearance.

However, Akshaye Khanna dropped out and was replaced with Tushhar Kapoor on short notice (hence the odd one out).
7. Rajkumar Santoshi narrated the story of the movie to Amar Singh (politician), who had arranged the meeting with Amitabh Bachchan and the film started with his blessings. Also, during the film's production he went out of his way to obtain permission to shoot on the train. Hence the reason Amar Singh is thanked in the opening credits.
8. The actor's name who played the role of Constable Kamlesh Sawant is Kamlesh Sawant.

Story

The movie tells the story of Raj Malhotra (Amitabh Bachchan), his wife Pooja (Hema Malini) and their four sons Ajay (Aman Verma), Sanjay (Samir Soni), Rohit (Saahil Chadda), and Karan (Nasir Khan). Raj and Pooja have provided their children with everything they wanted, often at the cost of Raj and Pooja's own requirements. The Malhotras also have an adopted son Alok (Salman Khan), who is in love with Arpita (Mahima Chaudhry) (both in special appearances). Alok was an orphan and Raj had provided him with money and education, bringing him up as his own son. Now a successful man, Alok worships Raj because of all his help and thinks him as his own father which he never had.

Raj has a flourishing job but, once he retires, he is no longer able to support himself and has to vacate the house he and Pooja have shared for years. They decide to live with their kids to get their love and affection. However, their kids do not want them, as they think looking after their parents will be a hassle. The children decide to split the parents up, each parent going to live with one of the sons for the next 6 months. The story shows how the aged parents endure this separation as well as horrible treatment from their children after all they have sacrificed for them during their lifetime. Saddened by the treatment he has received from his children and their families, Raj writes down all his feelings regarding how he fulfilled all his children's dreams and in return how they treat him, as well as his love for his wife, and how much pain their separation has caused, his writing eventually becoming a novel.

While changing their trains after 6 months, Raj and Pooja spend some time together in Mumbai, when they suddenly meet Alok, who takes them to his home and gives them the importance and care which their real sons did not give them. Raj then finds out that his writing has become a published book named Baghban. This book becomes a big hit, selling the first copies immediately. Raj, as a result, gains the money he needs to support himself and Pooja in their old age. It is now that their four sons come back to their parents, asking for their forgiveness. However, they hold an ulterior motive: to get a hold of their parents' money. Raj is honored for his work, and the four sons attend with their wives. When they ask Raj to forgive them, he refuses and instead disowns them. Not even Pooja will forgive her children for the pain they have put them through.

Raj stays with Pooja in their home, near Alok and Arpita, and enjoy the company of their grandchildren, Rahul and Payal, while disowning their sons and daughters-in-law..

Did you know?

B.R. Chopra got the film's concept in his mind thirty years previously, when he paid a visit to Copenhagen, Denmark. He came across a retirement home, where he met a woman who sorrowfully told him how her own children left her there and hadn't even paid a visit to her since.

Dilip Kumar and Rakhee Gulzar were 'B.R.Chopra''s first choices for the role of Raj and Pooja Malhotra at the time the film was conceptualized. Unfortunately the film had to be shelved for thirty years. At a retrospective of Chopra's films, Kumar said he regretted not being able to do the film.

Mohnish Bahl was offered the role of Ajay Malhotra, but he turned it down as he did not want to be portrayed as the father of a 15-year-old girl.

The first two lines of the song "Main Yahan Tum Wahan" were written by B.R. Chopra.

Juhi Chawla was approached for the role of Arpita Raj, but could not accept because she was pregnant.

Amitabh Bachchan (Raj Malhotra) sang four songs himself.

The T-shirt that Alok Raj (Salman Khan) wears in one scene belonged to Ravi Chopra's son Kapil.

Shah Rukh Khan was originally meant to play Alok Raj.

When Amitabh Bachchan wanted a climax speech, that would leave everyone speechless, he requested writer Javed Akhtar to write the lines for him. Javed obliged to do so. Also, Salman Khan asked his father Salim Khan to write a few lines, before Amitabh's speech. Just minutes before the shoot, Salman called his father and asked him to write the script insisting that he could do so even in half an hour. Flattered by son's compliments Salim wrote the script, which was acceptable to Ravi Chopra.

Amitabh Bachchan and Hema Malini returned to screen 20 years after Nastik.

Story

Anu Gaekwad (Madhu Sapre), Sheila Bardez (Padma Lakshmi) and Rina (Katrina Kaif) are three of India's top models. A prestigious diamond fashion show goes wrong and, inadvertently, they become embroiled in a jewelry heist. While on the runway, one of the models intentionally trips Anu — a model's worst nightmare. Anu's supportive friends, Sheila and Rina, come to the rescue. The trio confronts the model who tripped Anu and, soon thereafter, as the ladies get into a scuffle, they are met with a big surprise. Hundreds of glittering stolen diamonds, which were due to be smuggled out of the country, fall from the model's hair and on to the ramp only to be snatched up by paparazzi and celebrities alike.

Anu, Sheila and Rina are in shock as the fashion show turns to mayhem. The stolen diamonds are priceless antiques and have to be recovered by the gangsters, who hold the three glamorous models responsible for the heist-gone-wrong. The diamonds were due to be smuggled to Dubai and were stolen by Chhote Mia (Jackie Shroff). They were then to be handed to his brothers. The leader of the trio, Bade Mia (Amitabh Bachchan) is determined to get the diamonds back and so begins a cat and mouse game between the three models and the three gangsters. Who will succeed in outwitting the others?

Did you know?

1. Amitabh Bachchan wasn't paid his salary until the film released - he had to threaten to take the producers to court before he was paid.
2. 'Pooja Bhatt' was the joint partner who was suppose to be producing the film with Ayesha Shroff, but she opted out of the project before it took off.
